Criminal Legal Aid assignment numbers

Dear Ministry of Justice,
Please provide the following information:
1. The overall number of grants of criminal legal aid for each of the years 2015-2022 (using 1 July to 30 June as a year); and
2. Of those grants:
a. What percentage of grants were at PAL 1 for each of those years; and
b. What percentage of grants were at PAL 2 for each of those years; and
c. What percentage of grants were at PAL 3 for each of those years; and
d. What percentage of grants were at PAL 4 for each of those years; and
Where a case started as a PAL 1 case but became a PAL 2 case at some point, please include that in the PAL 2 statistics.
The above is intended to refer to individual grants made, not numbers of charges subject to a grant or numbers of persons in receipt of a grant.

It sounds like they only want the amount of assessed grants but this is
unclear.
Can you check if they only want the amounts of assessed grants?

Dear May, Annie,
Thank you for your request for clarification. I am not quite sure what exactly is meant by the term "assessed grants", but I am simply referring to all grants where the application is approved and assigned to a provider, whether PDS or other, it is not meant to include applications that are refused.
Please do not include interim grants.
