STV Calculator software used for local elections
Nathaniel Watson made this Official Information request to Department of Internal Affairs
The request was refused by Department of Internal Affairs.
From: Nathaniel Watson
Dear Department of Internal Affairs,
I would like to request a copy of the software used to calculate results in single-transferable vote (STV) local body elections.
From the information on stv.govt.nz, it is my understanding that DIA provides this software (from the site: "Votes are counted using specially developed computer software [...] The Department of Internal Affairs developed the program (called the STV calculator)").
I am specifically requesting:
- A copy of the uncompiled source code of any software that the department provides for the purpose of calculating STV election results
- A copy of the compiled software, as it is provided to councils (or those responsible for local election result calculation)
Regards,
Nathaniel Watson
