Requests for visits under Child Protection Protocol

Joshua Grainger made this Official Information request to Department of Corrections

The request was successful.

From: Joshua Grainger

Dear Department of Corrections,

The new Department of Corrections Child Protection Protocol makes it so that any prisoner with violence or sexual convictions against children are not able to have visits with any children without permission of the Prison Manager. I would like to request under the OIA:

* how many times have prisoners requested permission from prison managers for visits with a child?
* how many times has permission been granted?
* If possible could I please get a breakdown of this by prison, and by prisoner offense type (sexual vs violence)?

In the event it is not possible to get statistics from across all prisons, could I please request numbers from Christchurch Men's Prison, Christchurch Women's Prison, and Rolleston Prison.

Please feel free to contact me if you wish me to clarify my request.

Yours faithfully,

Joshua Grainger

Dear Department of Corrections,

Sorry, just to clarify about my OIA request, when I say

* how many times have prisoners requested permission from prison managers for visits with a child?

what I really mean is

* how many times have prisoners who would usually be prohibited from visits with a child under the Child Protection Protocol requested permission from prison managers for visits with a child?

Yours faithfully,

Joshua Grainger

Dear Department of Corrections,

I sent an OIA request on the 28th of September about visits under the new child protection protocol. The statutory deadline for responding to that request was the 24th of October. I had not yet received a response to that request. Please give me an update on the status of my request.

Yours faithfully,

Joshua Grainger
