Spending on lawyers in 2011/12 by QLDC CCOs

John Jacobson made this Official Information request to Queenstown-Lakes District Council

The request was refused by Queenstown-Lakes District Council.

From: John Jacobson

Dear Queenstown-Lakes District Council,

This is a request under section 10 of the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987.

In responding to an earlier LGOIMA request (which can be found at this URL: https://fyi.org.nz/request/1916-spending...) the Council explained that its response to my request did not include the money spent on legal advice or services in 2011/12 by the Council's two Council Controlled Organisations.

I therefore make the following fresh request for official information:

Please provide the names of the law firms (or sole practitioners)
and the total amount of money each of the Council's two Council Controlled Organisations spent with each law firm (or sole practitioner) it has procured services or advice from, and the town or city where that firm (or practitioner) is located, for the 2011-2012 financial year.

If you consider that one of the reasons in section 7(2) of the Act may provide a reason for refusing this request, I urge you consider the strong public interest in the Council being accountable for the spending of public money, and the accountability purpose of the Act, as described in section 4(a)(ii).

If anything about this request is unclear, or you consider the request may be refused under section 17(f) of the Act, please contact me via the address from which this request was sent.

I would prefer to receive the information electronically, by email sent to the address from which this request was received.

Yours faithfully,

John Jacobson

Hi John

I’m sorry but we no longer have access to the electronic financial systems
of Lakes Environmental and Lakes Leisure as the companies were wound up in
June 2013, so am unable to have a report run on billings from lawyers.
The physical invoices for that year are in storage in boxes along with
thousands  of other documents, therefore unfortunately I have to refuse
your request for information under section 17(f) in that the information
cannot be made available without substantial collation or research.

Regards

Barbara
