Questions in regards disclosures by Anne-Marie Brady

Richard Wang made this Official Information request to University of Canterbury

The request was successful.

From: Richard Wang

Good afternoon,

My understanding is that the University of Canterbury's Research Conduct Policy requires conflicts of interest by researchers to be disclosed.

As you are no doubt aware, your employee Anne-Marie Brady receives payment from both:
* the US 'National Endowment for Democracy' (NED), a group described by its first President, Carl Gershman, as a successor to the CIA in funding groups intended to subvert independent governments to advance American interests
* the 'Australian Strategic Policy Institute' (ASPI), a group that exists to funnel money from Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, and other military industrial contractors to those paid to promote their products

I am seeking information held by the University in regards:
* all conflicts of interest and funding sources disclosed by Brady
* any funding to the Department of Political Science and International Relations or other UoC departments connected to Brady's output
* conflicts of interest and funding disclosed by other UoC employees in connection to ASPI and the NED

Please let me know if you have any questions to help clarify my request.

Kind regards,
Richard

Morning Claire,

The text of the Official Information Act, and the guidance of the Ombudsman, has always clearly stated that extensions, where legitimate, must be notified within the original request period. NOT any previous extended period.

It should be fairly obvious why it is not legal to extend out an OIA request ad infinitum, regardless of the circumstances around Brady and her foreign bosses.

Where is the information?

Regards,
Richard

Morning Claire,

For your reference, this is the FAQ produced by the Ombudsman that clarifies some very simple questions about extensions to requests:
https://www.ombudsman.parliament.nz/site...
"Q: How should we respond to a request if the extended deadline can no longer be met?
A: It is possible to make a further extension if you are still within the original 20 working day period. Once outside that period, no further extensions may be made."

The response was due on the 19th. It is not legal to further extend that, simply because Brady or her foreign masters are stalling.

Regards,
Richard
