Christchurch CoI and the counter-jihad movement

Mohammed Khan made this Official Information request to Department of Internal Affairs

The request was refused by Department of Internal Affairs.

From: Mohammed Khan

Al-salaamu alaykum,

Scholars agree that Brenton Tarrant, as with other terrorists like Anders Breivik, was inspired by the 'counterjihad' ideology formulated by [removed by FYI.org.nz moderator], which seeks to blame all Muslims for terrorist actions (or self-defence actions, in the case of Palestine) carried out by a small minority.

I wish to request all advice, notes, agendas, and communications from the 'Royal Commission of Inquiry into the terrorist attack on Christchurch masjidain on 15 March 2019 ' that relate to:
# the counterjihad/counter-jihad movement, and its involvement in the attacks
# any measures taken to prevent agents of said movement from influencing the inquiry

Wa'l-salaam,
Mohammed

Thanks Jessica,

To clarify, you are stating that representatives of the islamophobic 'counterjihad' movement participated in the Commission of Inquiry?

Regards,
Mohammed Khan

Kia ora Mohammed,

The section 15 non-publication order referred to in our response to your request prevents us from providing the names of witnesses and participants. To be absolutely clear, we are not stating that the group you refer to were participants in the inquiry.

We are advising you that we are prohibited by law from providing information about the names of any and every witnesses and participant. That is why your request under the OIA was refused.

The only exception to the order not to name witnesses and participants is where they are named in the Royal Commission's report, which is already publicly available

Ngā mihi,

Jess
