Query regarding departing NZ after lodging 2021 one-off resident visa application

Phil Xu made this Official Information request to Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment

This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Phil Xu to read a recent response and update the status.

From: Phil Xu

Dear Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment,

Could you please confirm if my 2021 one-off resident visa will still be processed by Immigration New Zealand while I am offshore? I lodged my application on 01.12.2021 and still waiting for the outcome. I am desperate for travelling abroad to see my kids and wife, so please give me assurance about my application will not be disadvantaged and will be treated as an equal priority with the onshore application.

Yours faithfully,
Phil Xu

Kia Ora Phil,

Thank you for contacting us.

I will try to answer your question generally, but will be unable to
disclose any information off your file.

You must be in NZ to submit your 2021 resident visa application.

Once, submitted we are not required to remain in NZ to wait for the
RV.  INZ will continue to process the resident visa application even if
you are offshore.

At present, all applications submitted under Phase 2 from 01st March 2022
will be placed into the holding queue until the end of March 2022.

After this, INZ will process and assess applications based on when the
client's temporary visa is due to expire (at time of lodgement of the 2021
RV application)

You will receive an email when we begin processing your application and
requesting the supporting documents for your applications.
