When will Novavax be available for use in NZ

Julia Ryall made this Official Information request to Ministry of Health

This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Julia Ryall to read recent responses and update the status.

Dear Ministry of Health,

How long after provisional Medsafe approval does it take for cabinet to approve Novavax for use in NZ? it has been some time now!!

There is so many skilled building officials and local government employees waiting for this and their jobs depend on it being approved or we are losing very skilled people in areas we desperately need these skilled people. Why when they don't work in a medical field should their jobs depend on vaccination the unemployment line will be huge with talented people.

Please advise so they can try to save their jobs when Novavax will be approved for use. Hopefully if they can give their employees some guarantee of novavax approval we can save some of these talented people from losing their jobs, homes, families etc.

Yours faithfully,

Julia Ryall

Kia ora Julia,

Thank you for your email.

You might be aware that on 28 February 2022, Cabinet has approved the use
of Novavax for people aged 18 and above. The first doses are anticipated
to arrive in New Zealand this month and officials are working with Novavax
to confirm the delivery schedule and rollout start date.

In the meantime, work is underway to prepare for the use of Novavax in the
immunisation programme. This includes workforce training and ensuring
logistics measures are in place to ensure that those who want to be
vaccinated with the Novavax vaccine will have this option.

Under section 28(3) of the Act you have the right to ask the Ombudsman to
review any decisions made under this request. The Ombudsman may be
contacted by email at: [1][email address] or by calling 0800
802 602.

Ngā mihi
