Thank you for your below request for information regarding job loss data, which was received by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) on 17 February 2022.

It appears likely that your original request will need to be clarified to enable us to respond.

Could you please clarify whether you were seeking MBIE-specific job loss data (i.e. the number of MBIE employees who have been experienced job loss directly attributable to the pandemic), or job loss data for New Zealand-based workers nationwide (regardless of who their employer is)?

If you are able to provide these clarifications to us on or by COB Tuesday 22 February 2022, that would be ideal. If we do not hear from you by then, we will proceed with the most obvious interpretation of your request.

Please note, any clarification or amendment of a request is considered to be a new request for the purpose of calculating the maximum statutory timeframe for response—see section 15(1AA) of the Act.

You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision. Information about how to make a complaint is available at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.

We will get in touch with you as soon as possible if it turns out we do not hold nationwide data, or if there are any other issues.

As noted in our email yesterday, any clarification or amendment of a request is considered to be a new request for the purpose of calculating the maximum statutory timeframe for response—see section 15(1AA) of the Act.

Information about how to make a complaint is available at https://aus01.safelinks.protection.outlo... or freephone 0800 802 602.
