Tçnâ koe Marcus
Thank you for your request under the Official Information Act 1982 (the
Act) to the Ministry of Health (the Ministry) on 15 February 2022 for:
“…the Statistical Data that is used to ascertain the Background
Hospitalization rate in New Zealand with Myocarditis and Pericarditis of
931 within the AESI Safety report 39 - 31 December 2021.”
Adverse events of special interest (AESI) background hospitalisation rates
are used to estimate the expected number of events in the general
population, which help in vaccine safety surveillance. Counts indicate the
average of hospitalisation rates for the calendar years 2016-2019. The
data utilised to estimate the expected values is sourced from the National
Minimum Data Set (NMDS). The NMDS information is publicly available on the
Ministry’s website at:
[1]www.health.govt.nz/nz-health-statistics/national-collections-and-surveys/collections/national-minimum-dataset-hospital-events.
The rates used in this data were provided by the SAFE study using verified
NMDS data. A link is provided in an adverse event following immunisation
(AEFI) report to the data and this link is publicly available at:
[2]https://gvdn.shinyapps.io/gvdn/.
Under section 28(3) of the Act, you have the right to ask the Ombudsman to
review any decisions made under this request. The Ombudsman may be
contacted by email at: [3][email address] or by calling 0800
802 602.
