Thank you for your request of 5 February 2022 under the Official Information Act 1982 requesting copies of all email communications referring to the 2022 or 2023 opening dates for the Peka Peka to Ôtaki project.

Waka Kotahi has carried out an initial email search to establish the volume of emails that could potentially be in scope of your request. One key staff member’s email box was searched, and this identified around 900 emails and email trails that would need to be collated and assessed. There are many more people involved in this project, and a search of Waka Kotahi wide email inboxes would capture tens of thousands of emails. Collating and assessing these emails would require a substantial amount of time and resources and would place an unreasonable administrative burden on Waka Kotahi. Your request as it currently stands is likely to be refused under section 18(d) of the Act.

To assist us in responding to your request, we would really appreciate it if you could let us know the purpose of your request, or specifically what information you are seeking, which may help us to refine and narrow down the scope of your request.

We will be happy to reconsider your refined request. Please note that, under Section 15(1)(AA) of the Act, the revised request may be treated as a new request for the purpose of calculating the time period for response under the Act.

Thank you for your reply of 17 February 2022 clarifying your request.

 

Unfortunately, this refinement of your request does not reduce the amount
of emails potentially in scope enough to reduce the amount of collation
and staff resources required to fulfil your request.  It is unlikely that
further refinement along these lines will be able to reduce the scope
enough.

 

We would like to offer you the opportunity to specify what information you
are looking for, or the purpose of your request. This may help us refine
the scope of your request with you.
