Surinder Sharma made this Official Information request to University of Otago
The request was successful.
From: Surinder Sharma
Dear University of Otago,
Please can you respond to the following questions
1. How many MB ChB students were admitted from HSFY 2021 broken down into the following categories/ sub categories:
Maori HSFY
Pacifica HSFY
Rural HSFY
Refugee HSFY
Socioeconomic HSFY
General Entry HSFY (so students who do not fall into any sub-categories above)
Yours faithfully,
SSharma
From: UoO - Official Information Act

I acknowledge receipt of your information request dated 29 January 2022 and made under the Official Information Act 1982.
We have decided to grant your request. However, the University's Medical School has not yet confirmed final numbers for its 2022 MB ChB programme. This includes final admission numbers under the HSFY general category and each of the priority groups. The data will not be known and therefore will not be available until the end of March, as student offers continue until the end of the third week of teaching in Semester One. The reasons for late offers relate to students declining entry to the programme after it has commenced (but by the end of the third week) or having to defer for unanticipated reasons.
Please note that for privacy reasons, the University's standard practice is not to report on numbers where those numbers are below 5. Where the numbers are very low, there is a risk that the identity of those individuals can be determined/inferred.
We will be in touch with regards to the requested data once this data has been confirmed.
Ngā mihi

Kia ora S. Sharma
Thank you for your patience. Further to our email of 1 February 2022,
please see below our response to your Official Information Act request.
How many MB ChB students were admitted from HSFY 2021 broken down into the
following categories/equity groups (Mâori, Pacifica, Rural, Refugee,
Socioeconomic, General)
Please see the below table which shows the number of applicants to receive
offers to enter the 2022 Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB
ChB) programme via the Health Sciences First Year (HSFY) General category
and equity groups, as well as the number of applicants who accepted their
offer to enter the programme.
We note that it is the University’s standard practice to not report on
numbers where those numbers are below 5. Where the numbers are very low,
there is a risk that the identity of those individuals can be
determined/inferred. Outcomes for groups with fewer than 5 individuals are
reported as “<5” (fewer than 5). Withholding this information is
consistent with section 9(2)(a) of the Act, and we do not consider that
the reasons for withholding this information are outweighed by other
considerations which would make it desirable in the public interest to
make the information available.
