Tēnā koe Paul
I refer to your official information request dated 28 January 2022 for:
1. any and all medical data (with references) included in the decision
making process and/or risk assessment that resulted in the decision to
introduce a vaccine mandate affecting all TDC staff.
2. if this decision has been updated with the emergence of the Omicron
variant.
3. the number of employees that have been stood down, resigned or been
sacked due to their refusal to comply
The information you have requested is below
Any and all medical data (with references) included in the decision making
process and/or risk assessment that resulted in the decision to introduce
a vaccine mandate affecting all TDC staff.
The Council relies on the health guidance and evidence from the Ministry
of Health in relation to its decision making.
Council accepts that both vaccinated and unvaccinated people can catch
COVID-19. However, Ministry of Health guidance indicates that vaccinated
people are less likely to become infected with the virus and therefore
less likely to spread the disease. As such, along with mask wearing and
scanning-in, we are looking to slow the spread of the virus. Furthermore,
the potential for severe health outcomes (hospitalisation, admission to
ICU, and death) is greatly reduced for those who are fully vaccinated.
Any queries in relation to the scientific evidence should be referred to
the Ministry of Health.
If this decision has been updated with the emergence of the Omicron
variant.
The Council’s decision to require all employees to be fully vaccinated was
based on the Tasman District moving to the Red Alert level of the COVID-19
Protection Framework Traffic Light System.
The number of employees that have been stood down, resigned or been sacked
due to their refusal to comply
As of 1 February 2022, two library employees were stood down from their
duties on 12 January 2022 following the Council’s decision to introduce My
Vaccine Pass (MVP) entry requirements on all of our libraries. Two
employees’ employment with the Council has been terminated due to failing
to comply with the Council’s mandatory vaccination requirement.
If you are not satisfied with Council’s response, you have the right to
seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman. Information about how
to make a complaint is available at [1]www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or
freephone 0800 802 602.
If you wish to discuss this decision with us, please feel free to contact
