Risk assessment/ profile for vaccinate vs. unvaccinated in under 40 year olds

Mrs Denis made this Official Information request to Ministry of Health

This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Mrs Denis to read recent responses and update the status.

From: Mrs Denis

Dear Ministry of Health,
Could you please provide all related correspondence/reports/technical support information surrounding the determination of the risk profile for people aged 12-18, 18-30 and 30-40 (or age brackets as studied).
What tools have been used to determine the Covid related risks? What assumptions have been made/been inputed into them?
What assumptions/rates have been made in relation to vaccination side effects per age bracket?
WHat is the benefit to the health care system as a result?

As more data becomes available in relation to the Pfizer vaccine side effects, it is important that the risk profiling/ benefit risk analysis remain current. This will allow young healthy adults understand where they stand so they can make an informed decision with regards to vaccination.

The lack of publicly available detailed information in this regards harms the trust of the population on the institutions and fuels mistrust surrounding the robust examination processes in the benefit of public health.

Please advice if this request should be directed to a different authority.

Yours faithfully,

Mrs Denis

Tēnā koe Mrs Denis,

Thank you for your request under the Official Information Act 1982 (the
Act) to the Ministry of Health (the Ministry) on 16 December 2021 for
information about the risk profile for COVID-related cases.

You specifically requested:

Could you please provide all related correspondence/reports/technical
support information surrounding the determination of the risk profile for
people aged 12-18, 18-30 and 30-40 (or age brackets as studied).
What tools have been used to determine the Covid related risks? What
assumptions have been made/been inputed into them?
What is the benefit to the health care system as a result?

This part of your request is refused under section 18(e) of the Act as the
information requested does not exist. For your reference, the Ministry
conducts risk assessments for specific scenarios related to COVID-19,
rather than a risk assessment for the disease itself. For example, a risk
assessment is conducted when a case is detected in New Zealand in order to
determine whether any restrictions should be put in place.

However, you may be interested in the original benefit/risk assessment for
the Pfizer Comirnaty vaccine has been released in a previous response and
can be found
at: [1]www.health.govt.nz/system/files/documents/information-release/h202106950_response.pdf. Please
refer to Document 10 on page 94.

Some information has been withheld from this document under the following
sections of the Act:

o section 9(2)(b)(ii) where its release would likely unreasonably
prejudice the commercial position of the person who supplied the
information; and
o section 9(2)(g)(ii) the protection of such Ministers, members of
organisations, officers, and employees from improper pressure or
harassment;

What assumptions/rates have been made in relation to vaccination  side
effects per age bracket?

The side effects and expected frequency are in the data sheet and are
grouped by some age groups. The data sheet is continually updated as more
information because available. This data sheet is publicly available here:
[2]www.medsafe.govt.nz/COVID-19/vaccine-report-overview.asp
Under section 28(3) of the Act you have the right to ask the Ombudsman to
review any decisions made under this request. The Ombudsman may be
contacted by email at: [3][email address] or by calling 0800
802 602.
