Research into the falling prison population

Ti Lamusse made this Official Information request to New Zealand Police

Response to this request is long overdue. By law New Zealand Police should have responded by now (details and exceptions). The requester can complain to the Ombudsman.

From: Ti Lamusse

Dear New Zealand Police,

I am interested in looking at any research the Police has conducted into the reasons for the falling prison population. I understand this is not something the Police directly controls. Regardless, I am interested if this is something you are aware of and are investigating.

Please provide me with the following information:
1) Since January 1 2018, has the Police (or its contractors) conducted any research investigating the causes of the falling prison population? If so, please provide me with the title of those pieces of research, and the date they were completed. If research has commencrd but it is not yet complete, please provide me with the start date of the research and the expected completion date.
2) Please provide me with all the documents identified in response to question 1.

Yours faithfully,

Ti Lamusse

After internal discussion, Police can advise we do not hold the information you have requested.

Per section 14 of the Official Information Act 1982, we attempted to transfer your request to Ministry of Justice and Department of Corrections, as we identified the information you requested is more closely connected with their functions. However, we have been made aware that you have already made this request to Ministry of Justice and Department of Corrections and therefore a transfer is not necessary. You can expect a response from both agencies in due course.

You have the right to complain to the Ombudsman about this decision. Relevant information about how to make a complaint is available at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.

Many thanks, Brittany
