Data basis for reduction in Covid-19 (delta) transmission after vaccination

Mario Funken made this Official Information request to Ministry of Health

The request was partially successful.

From: Mario Funken

Dear Ministry of Health,

In the light of recently announced policies, it seems the Ministry is heavily relying on the Pfizer-Biontech vaccine having a meaningful effect on reducing the transmission of the SARS-CoV 2 Delta variant.

Please provide any and all documents/studies corroborating such an effect which have been used in the decision making process for recent public health orders.

Specifically, does the Ministry hold the opinion that there is any measurable effect persisting longer than ~15 weeks after the second dose of the vaccine? If yes, please provide the basis upon which the ministry has come to this conclusion.

Yours faithfully,

Mario Funken

Kia ora Mario,
Thank you for your email.

Preliminary results from studies carried out by researchers have shown
that two doses of the Pfizer vaccine can substantially
reduce transmission of the
virus: [1]https://www.health.govt.nz/system/files/....
However, more data is required to understand the extent of the effect that
vaccination has on transmission of the Delta variant. A summary of
currently available data can be found on the [2]US CDC science brief
page.

The Immunisation Handbook provides references to scientific studies
conducted regarding COVID-19 and the vaccine (chapter
