Dear Matt
I am emailing regarding your Official Information Act (OIA) request to the
Treasury on the cost benefit of lockdowns, received 24 August 2021:
Could you please send all Cost Benefit work related to Level 4 Lock Downs.
This work can be either;
Created for internal treasury purposes, or
Work that has been requested by any government minister, or
Work that has been requested by any government department
I wanted to let you know that in late-April, the Treasury published a
special topic on our Alert Level economic impact assumptions.
This can be viewed here: [1]WEU Special Topic – Alert Level Assumptions
Refresh (BEFU 2021) (treasury.govt.nz)
These estimates are based on what was observed during previous Alert Level
escalations. However, as we have not had an Alert Level 4 episode since
March 2020, the estimates in the link above are the Treasury’s latest
figures and are the ones we have used for the most recent Alert Level 4
advice.
Please let me know if this answers your request, or if you would like to
proceed with your OIA request. As you will understand the Treasury along
with a number of Government agencies, is currently directing resources
towards its response to COVID-19. This will mean the Treasury will likely
need to extend the time needed to fulfil this request.
