Kia ora
Further to my earlier response to you on 13 July (below), I indicated I
would be in touch further by the end of July.
There has been a short delay in compiling the relevant materials for you,
and I wanted to let you know.
As today is my last day as DCE Corporate in LINZ, the follow-up response
will come from someone else. LINZ will be in touch with you within 1-2
weeks.
Peter

Response to your official information request
Thank you for your official information request received on 15 June 2021
for “the asbestos management plan and testing results” in relation to
Radio New Zealand House. I am keen to provide this information to you and
will do so no later than the end of July. I’d like to explain my reasoning
to you for this approach.
The current asbestos management plan (dated 25 November 2019) is outdated
and contains information that cannot be relied on as robust. The building
owner is currently completing a new plan that accurately reflects the
building’s situation. I will provide you with both the ‘old’ and ‘new’
plans, when the new one is complete in the coming couple of weeks.
At this time, I do not believe it is in the public interest to release the
‘old’ plan separately, as it could give rise to perceptions or concerns
about health and safety that are fundamentally not correct. I hope you
understand this judgment, thinking of the interests of all of our staff
and visitors and our health and safety obligations.
LINZ takes health and safety very seriously. When we discovered that the
building owner’s asbestos management plan was outdated and inaccurate, and
to give ourselves further assurance about building occupation, we
commissioned independent testing. The results (air monitoring and
swabbing) were negative for asbestos, and confirmed it was safe for LINZ
to use the building. I will provide the independent testing report to you
with the package of material.
I will be back in touch before the end of July. I would also be pleased to
discuss this with you if useful (021 370 869; [2][email address]). You
have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of my
decision. Information about how to make a complaint is available at
[3]www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
