Grant Carroll made this Official Information request to New Zealand Police

The request was successful.

From: Grant Carroll

Dear New Zealand Police,
Last evening a New Zealand Facebook user updated his profile picture with a photo of himself along with two uniformed New Zealand Police inspectors and a uniformed New Zealand Police sergeant. Along the bottom of the photo was a caption reading "I Stand With Israel Forever".

Pursuant to the Official Information Act 1982 I would like to ask:
1) Is it considered appropriate for three members of the New Zealand Police, in particular, two very senior members, to appear in a photo on a social media platform with the above caption on the photo.

2) Does the New Zealand Police have any policy or procedures in place to regulate how it's members are able to support or oppose political causes and, if so, how are these three officers able to have their photo on a very widely used and viewed social media platform with a caption such as "I Stand With Israel Forever" on the photo.

I confirm that I am a New Zealand citizen resident in New Zealand.

Thank you.

Yours faithfully,

Grant Carroll.

Kia ora Mr Carroll

I refer to one of the questions in your OIA request, below, namely: 1) Is
it considered appropriate for three members of the New Zealand Police, in
particular, two very senior members, to appear in a photo on a social
media platform with the above caption on the photo.

For Police to give an accurate response to this question, we would need to
see the photo you are referring to. Please can you provide a screenshot or
copy of the photo and the platform it appears on? You can do this by
sending directly to [1][email address] if you choose
not to publish via this forum.

I am advised that a response to your second question regarding Police
policy is underway.
