Dear Nelson Marlborough District Health Board,
I am seeking information on the performance and service of DHBs for their provision of mental health services. I would like data for the following:
For all of your Mental Health health services including Child and adolescent metal health; adult mental health, emergency, acute, crisis response; elderly, I would like the following:
• Number of new entries/cases per month, by age group (five year bands if possible*), 2015 – 2020 calendar year
• Number of cases open at month end, by age group (five year bands), 2015 – 2020 calendar year
• Number of people exiting per month, by age group (five year bands if possible*), 2015 – 2020 calendar year
For the DHB:
• Number of hospitalisations for mental health per year, emergency and non-emergency, by age group (five year bands), 2015 – 2020 calendar year
• Number of people waitlisted to see a psychologist per year, by age group (five year bands), 2015 – 2020 calendar year
• Number of people seeing a psychologist, per year, by age group (five year bands), 2015 – 2020 calendar year
• Number of psychologists employed by the DHB at year end (split by part time, full time, contracted) by year, 2015 – 2020 calendar year
*Five year bands are ideally 0 – 5, 6 – 10, 11 -15, 16- 20, 21 – 25, 26 -30, etc. If there is too much suppression in those age bands can it please be in ten year age bands.

Re: Official Information Act request – Mental health care
We refer to your official information request received by Nelson
Marlborough DHB on 6 April 2021.
The Official Information Act requires that we advise you of our decision
on your request no later than 20 working days after the day we received
your clarification. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to meet that
time limit and we are therefore writing to notify you of an extension of
the time of an additional 20 working days to make our decision, to 2 June
2021.
This extension is necessary because, and as specified under Section
15A(1)(b) of the Official Information Act 1982, ‘consultations necessary
to make a decision on the request are such that a proper response cannot
reasonably be made within the original time limit’.
On behalf of the responding services, we will endeavour to respond to your
request as soon as reasonably practicable.

Nelson Marlborough DHB has reached a decision to grant this request, in
part.
POINT 5: Number of people waitlisted to see a psychologist per year, by
age group (five year bands), 2015 – 2020 calendar year
NMH response: This information is not held in a form that is readily
retrievable from our Information System and, under section 18(f), ‘the
information requested cannot be made available without substantial
collation and research’. It would take a significant amount of time and
resources to extract and manually review individual patient files to
collate this information.
The information requested for the remaining points will be made available
without undue delay.
An estimated timeframe for the release of information is within 10 working
days.
You have the right to seek an investigation by the Ombudsman of this
