Implementation of the NIS

Virginia Crawford made this Official Information request to Ministry of Health

The request was successful.

From: Virginia Crawford

Dear Ministry of Health,

Has the implementation of the NIS reached a stage where the recent vaccinations of border workers (and others) are or have been recorded?

If not, (a) when will this start and (b) how will the system "catch up"?

Yours faithfully,

Virginia Crawford

Dear OIA Requests,

Thank you for your reply and it is good to know that stats are being kept on the vaccination rollout.

However you did not address my question regarding the National Immunisation Solution. I understand this has now been developed (according to Minister Hipkins).

Your reply would seem to indicate that this is NOT yet ready, at least as far as the public is concerned. When will be it ready, so that members of the public are able to access their own vaccination records and vaccinators able to input details into the database?

By the way, the "link" you provided was neither clickable nor able to be coy/pasted. Unfortunately, this seems to be endemic in regard to freedom of information requests.

Yours sincerely,

Virginia Crawford

Good afternoon Virginia,

In response to your questions below.

The Covid Immunisation Register (CIR) has been designed, built and
continues to support the COVID-19 response. All COVID-19 vaccinations
(border workers etc) are being recorded within the CIR. The National
Immunisation Solution (NIS) is a longer term solution that will support
all immunisation schedules and vaccines. We are aiming to complete the
build of the wider NIS solution by March 2022 depending on Covid
priorities. The CIR will be incorporated into the NIS during this process.

We are looking to provide a secure digital portal for consumers sometime
later this year, to enable people to view their own vaccine status and
test results. The CIR does provide a record of the immunisation events to
your registered GP, enabling people to request their immunisation status
by talking to their GP.

Kind regards,
