Representation on Technical Advisory Groups and Species Recovery Groups

Steve made this Official Information request to Department of Conservation

The request was refused by Department of Conservation.

From: Steve

Dear Department of Conservation,

I would like to congratulate the Department on its focus of working more closely with conservation groups in an effort to increase the speed of restoration in New Zealand.

Obviously it is important under such an approach that real efforts are made to partner with external organisations.

To this end could you please provide me with an overview of the participants in all Technical Advisory Groups (TAGs) and Species Recovery Groups, specifically the mix between external and internal participants over the last 5 years?

Yours faithfully,
Steve Corin

Dear Troy,

Good to hear from you and thanks for getting back in touch.

Is it possible for you to provide the files, rather than undertake the analysis, which I can then do?

Yours sincerely,
Steve

Dear Steve,
As I outlined in my initial response it is the collation and research time taken to source the information you require, that will incur the significant costs. The information I provided you took me over 40 hours to compile through many phone calls and an exhaustive file search. It is from this effort that I have calculated the additional estimated costs.
I am advised that it is not the Department of Conservation’s practice to provide complete files for external inspection. This is because they may contain legally privileged or other materials that may be withheld under the Official information Act.

Thanks
