Foreign interference in the 2020 General Election

Stephanie Johnstone made this Official Information request to Government Communications Security Bureau

This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Stephanie Johnstone to read recent responses and update the status.

From: Stephanie Johnstone

Dear Government Communications Security Bureau,

Does the GCSB possess any credible intelligence that foreign countries (or any person or organisation acting on behalf of that country) have or are interfering in the 2020 NZ General Election?

If so, can you
- state which candidate(s) and/or party/parties is the interference intended to support; and
- state whether or not you have provided advice to the current government on how to combat foreign interference in the 2020 NZ General Elections; and
- state how many of any recommendations made in such advice have been accepted and how many have been rejected either in full or in part.

Please note that I am not requesting copies of any intelligence you may hold, nor any details about the nature or sources of such information. Additionally I am not requesting copies of any advice you have provided the government nor any details about any recommendations you may have made in relation to this topic.

Given the proximity of the election, the fact that this information is relevant to that and the very limited responses sought, i request you treat this request as urgent.

Yours faithfully,
Stephanie Johnstone
