I refer to your request of 6 September 2020 for information about the qualifications of one of the University of Auckland's academic staff members, Associate Professor Wiles. As noted in the University's Calendar, which is publicly available, Associate Professor Wiles' PhD was awarded by Edinburgh Napier University. Associate Professor Wiles' supervisors for her PhD were Professor Jim Philp, Edinburgh Napier University and Professor Mark Bailey, UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology Oxford, and it was a traditional PhD i.e. it was awarded on the successful completion of a long programme of supervised research that contributed new knowledge to the field, with findings disseminated by means of peer reviewed output and thesis.

1. Which University has awarded it.
2. Who was Siouxsie Wiles supervisor for this Ph.D.
3. Whether the Ph.D was awarded by the traditional route of research and a substantial thesis or by another route such as 'Published Works' which some universities such as Edinburgh Napier University offer i.e

"If you already have a substantive body of original published work, which makes a significant contribution to knowledge in your area of expertise, you can submit for a PhD by Published Works. You will produce a synoptic review that links your works. This review together with the existing published work form a thesis, which you will defend in a viva voce (an oral examination). This option is available to Edinburgh Napier staff and alumni only."
