The annual statistics provided by MPI show that 35 guinea pigs were used for research, testing and teaching purposes in 2018 by the University of Auckland.

Under the Official Information Act, I would like to request a copy of the approved application(s) made to your Animal Ethics Committee on the use of these 35 animals.

Dear Tara,

I refer to your request of 18 August 2020. The University has decided to
provide you with the documents requested, subject to some material being
withheld under the Official Information Act’s withholding grounds.
Unlabelled redactions in the documents are of personal information
withheld under sections 9(2)(a) and 9(2)(g)(ii) of the Act, to protect the
privacy of those persons and to protect them from harassment; otherwise
redactions will be labelled with the relevant withholding grounds. The
documents will be provided to you as soon as reasonably practicable; we
anticipate this will be done by Monday 21 September 2020.

You have the right to make a complaint to an Ombudsman if you are
dissatisfied with this response.

information specifying facilities has also been withheld under section
9(2)(g)(ii), to protect staff from harassment; otherwise redactions have
been labelled with the relevant withholding grounds
