On behalf of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment I
acknowledge your email of 6 August 2020 requesting under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act), the following:

 

According to figures obtained from the Migration Data Explorer there were
a total of 2,217 work visas approved for the occupation "Fruit or Nut
Picker" in June 2020.

 

I request the following information:

 

The number of these visas that were subject to Labour Market Testing;
Confirmation that there were New Zealanders considered suitable and/or
trainable for the job; and If any New Zealanders were considered suitable
and/or trainable for the job, then please explain why visas were not
declined.

 

Your request is being processed in accordance with the Act and a response
will be sent to you in due course.

 

Please note, due to ongoing COVID-19 response work, requests are currently
being triaged and those relating to Covid-19 processed as a priority.
Remaining requests are being assessed as per the Ombudsman’s guidance
(which can be found here:

and processed accordingly.
