Benefit & Conditions of deal with Universal to resume filming of Jurassic World in NZ

Martin Krafft made this Official Information request to Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment

The request was refused by Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment.

From: Martin Krafft

Dear Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment,

It has been in the news that American media conglomerate is eying Aotearoa New Zealand to resume filming their Jurassic World movie, because our land is not as plagued by COVID19 as the rest of the world.

We welcome foreign business to take advantage of our achievement, but only if this automatically comes with significant, explicit, and measurable impact for our country. The fact that the virus is not being transmitted communally here is due to excellent leadership, and hard work by the Team of 5 Million. It only makes sense to expect those who now want to benefit from us and our infrastructure to help us invest, and to rebuild and reform our economies.

Please either refer me to the right body to direct my question to, or answer the following:

1. Assuming there have been discussions between Universal and official entities in New Zealand, please disclose the conditions that have been laid out by New Zealand, under which we would allow a foreign business to take advantage of our hard work.

2. What is the projected benefit to the national economy associated with this deal? How was this calculated?

3. What are the tax provisions in place? What precautions are being considered to prevent Universal from trying to avoid paying adequate taxes to our state?

4. If no discussions have yet taken place, then please inform as to when these are expected to take place, or what the general process will be for Universal to obtain permission, along with all the associated support from Immigration, and the local authorities.

Sincerely,
Martin Krafft
