Bias Against Male ECE teachers

S. Paurini made this Official Information request to Chris Hipkins

This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for S. Paurini to read a recent response and update the status.

From: S. Paurini

Dear Chris Hipkins,

According to the Child Forum successive governments and the Ministry of Education support gender-bias against males in the ECE sector.

Is that true?

If so, why?

If not, then you should explain the declining numbers of males in ECE teaching.

As you know the numbers of registered male ECE teachers is about one percent in New Zealand with another one percent (thereabouts) unqualified.

If there isn't a bias against males, why hasn't this government and your Ministry of Education lifted the numbers at all?

There is significant research that shows male teachers make a positive difference in ECE education worldwide in the same way that babies, toddlers and children make a positive difference to male teachers' lives worldwide.

I'd appreciate your response, I'm concerned about this. I want to know what you're doing about this massive discrepancy between men and women in ECE teaching.

Yours faithfully,

S. Paurini
