Debtors prison
Craig Ryan made this Official Information request to Minister of Justice
The request was successful.
From: Craig Ryan
Dear Minister of Justice,
In light of the Amendments to the student loan scheme that will allow for inland revenue to issue an arrest warrant that will be used to arrest defaulting overseas based borrowers at New Zealand borders, will there be a need or is there any consideration in the future for debtors prisons?
If yes, where will the prisons be situated or will the convicted criminals be incarcerated with the rest of the convicted and sentenced criminals?
Yours faithfully,
Craig Ryan

Dear J Collins (MIN),
Thank you for your response to my request.
I am confused regarding the fact that my request falls under the Minister of Revenue's portfolio, the information I want is related to corrections and justice, not tax.
Could you please explan to me how my request is and should be addressed to the Minister of Revenue, rather that than the Minister of Justice.
Yours sincerely,
Craig Ryan
