Foreign Trusts

Kieran Tahir made this Official Information request to Inland Revenue Department

The request was partially successful.

From: Kieran Tahir

Dear Inland Revenue Department,

I am writing to request information regarding the New Zealand foreign trusts still in existence subsequent to the 2017 change in disclosure requirements.

My requests for information are as follows:

1. How many foreign trusts remain active in New Zealand?

2. What is the value of the capital and assets held within these foreign trusts?

3. Has any information about a New Zealand foreign trust been exchanged with any foreign government since the new disclosure legislation has come into effect?

I am requesting this information as part of a research component of a Masters degree in Politics and International Relations at the University of Auckland

Thank you for your help.
Yours faithfully,

Kieran Tahir
