Evidence supporting use of Roundup Transorb on silage before harvest
John Small made this Official Information request to Environmental Protection Authority
The request was partially successful.
From: John Small
Dear Environmental Protection Authority,
Please supply all information submitted to the EPA in support of an application for using Roundup Transorb on silage crops before harvesting. I understand this application was approved and no stock withholding period was imposed.
Since Roundup Transorb is different to generic glyphosate, there is no commercial risk to the supplier of Roundup Transorb from releasing this information. Any seller of another glyphosate product could not rely on this information for its own application to EPA.
Yours faithfully,
John Small

Dear Mr Small
Thank you for your enquiry about the application for Roundup Transorb. From your email it appears you are most interested in the matter of the stock withholding period. I am advised that the EPA does not set withholding periods for substances - this is done by the Agricultural Compounds and Veterinary Medicines group within the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI).
If the withholding period is your interest, we propose transferring your request to MPI for a response. Could you please confirm whether you would like us to proceed with the transfer, or whether you still wish the EPA to supply all non-confidential information submitted in support of Roundup Transorb on silage crops before harvest?
Yours sincerely

Dear Madeline Smith,
What I most want to see is the scientific evidence presented in support of the application to use Roundup Transorb in this way. I still want to see that evidence please.
I will ask MPI directly about the with-holding period issue.
Yours sincerely,
John Small

Environmental Protection Authority
Dear John Small
Thank you for your email of 11 October 2013 in which you requested all information submitted to the EPA in support of the application for Roundup Transorb on silage crops. The Environmental Protection Authority is treating your request as a request for information under section 12 of the Official Information Act 1982 (“the OIA”).
Section 57 of the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996 (“the HSNO Act”) sets out a process for dealing with a request for information under the OIA where the information may be able to be withheld under section 9(2)(b) of the OIA, or has been classified as commercially sensitive by the person who gave the information to the Authority. We notified the supplier of the information in question on 25 October 2013 and informed them of your request. In accordance with section 57(3) of the HSNO Act, that person has 10 working days from receipt of the notice in which to respond stating whether that person believes that the information should be withheld under the OIA and to provide reasons.
We will be in touch as soon as reasonably practicable regarding our decision on your request for information.
Please contact me if you have any queries.
