From: George Morrison

Dear University of Auckland,

Please provide me with all internal communications (including but not limited to emails and documents such as the business case, evaluations and any analysis, plus the forward calendar of events that could be hosted at the new venue) relating to the decision to purchase the property in Parnell that will accommodate the new vice chancellor (covered in the NZ Herald on 29 January 2020).

Dear George,
I refer to your request of 30 January 2020. Unfortunately it is necessary to extent the time limit for your request until Friday 20 March 2020 under section 15A of the Official Information Act, on the ground that your request necessitates a search through a large quantity of information and meeting the original time limit would unreasonably interfere with the University's operations. You have the right to make a complaint to an Ombudsman about this extension.
Yours sincerely,

Dear University of Auckland,

My request for information regarding the decision to purchase a property in Parnell is now overdue

By law, you should normally have responded promptly and by February 28, 2020.

You asked for an extension to today, but have failed to provide the requested information, as you are required to do under law.

Please action this request promptly or I will have to submit it to the ombudsman.

Yours faithfully,

George Morrison

Dear Mr Morrison,

I refer to your Official Information Act request of 30 January 2020. The
University has decided to provide you with the information requested,
subject to some material being withheld under the Act’s withholding
grounds. Specifically, material has been withheld under section 9(2)(a)
(to protect the privacy of natural persons), section 9(2)(g)(i) (to
maintain the effective conduct of public affairs through the free and
frank expression of opinions by or between or to members of the University
in the course of their duty), section 9(2)(i) (to enable the University to
carry out commercial activities without prejudice or disadvantage) and
section 9(2)(j) (to enable the University to carry on negotiations without
prejudice or disadvantage).

Unfortunately, due to the large file size we are unable to send the
material to fyi.org.nz over email. The material will be provided to you as
soon as reasonably practicable. We will be consulting with fyi.org.nz
staff to arrange a method to provide the material.

You have the right to make a complaint about this response to an
Ombudsman.

Yours sincerely,
