Whanau Ora Commissioning Agency Public Funding

S. Paurini made this Official Information request to Peeni Henare

Response to this request is long overdue. By law Peeni Henare should have responded by now (details and exceptions). The requester can complain to the Ombudsman.

From: S. Paurini

Dear Peeni Henare,

Answer the following questions.

1. How much public money in total did the Whanau Ora Commissioning Agency receive in 2019, 2018 and 2017.

2. For each of those years,
How much are the two patrons paid yearly.

How much were board members paid yearly, including the chair.

How much is the management team including the CEO paid yearly.

I am following up with further requests for information in November 2019.

Yours faithfully,

S. Paurini

Dear Peeni Henare,

I've not heard back from the Whanau Ora commissioning agency. Since they recieve around $45,000,000 per year of public money and can't find $1000 for a genuine whanau direct project then I have some concerns about the way the Whanau Ora commissioning agency uses public money.

That they are not required to be publicly accountable is also worrying.

That they use public money to do the work of the likes of Work and Income, DHBs, PHOs and dentists indicates to me that Whanau Ora is not using the resources correctly.

Whanau Ora is meant to be concerned with lifting whanau up so we can become healthy and independent. Paying for groceries or a GPs bill or a dentists bill is not a wise use of public money when the government's agenices already do these things.

I expect you to follow this up and instruct the Whanau Ora Commissioning agency to justify their lack of support for our whanau.

Yours faithfully,

S. Paurini

As you will recall, your Official Information Act requests to Minister Henare were transferred to Te Puni Kōkiri for a response. I understand that, while Te Puni Kōkiri has sent you the letter of response, they are unable to send you the documents containing the information for release to you until after the lockdown.

I have been advised that the documents will be sent to you within five working days after Level 4 restrictions have been lifted. I trust these documents will provide you with the information you seek.

Ngā mihi nui
