1800 new Police Officers

Mr J Stewart made this Official Information request to Stuart Nash

The request was successful.

From: Mr J Stewart

Dear Stuart Nash,

You've been quoted a few times now saying the Governments going to increase the number of Police Officers by 1800.

Could you please confirm that the 1800 new Police Officers is in fact only counting Constables (sworn members) and that no Authorised Officers will count towards the total 1800.

Yours faithfully,

J Stewart.

Dear Jason Smith,

Can I please seek some clarification on this request as it seems to contradict itself.

The first part says Authorised Officers aren't included in the 1800 but the second paragraph says it includes 250 Authorised Officers.

Which one is it?

Yours sincerely,

Mr J Stewart

Dear J Stewart

Both statements are correct.

The Government has committed to graduate 1800 new recruits from the Police College. This number excludes authorised officers.

There is also a commitment by the Government to increase the number of frontline police by 1800, on top of attrition of existing staff. This number will include 250 authorised officers. Since their inception, authorised officers have been included in the number of serving officers.
