Dear Ministry for Primary Industries,

I would like to request any and all information, including reports, emails and documents associated with investigations, relating to cattle mutilations in New Zealand since 1 January 2015, where it was found to be inconclusive as to what caused the mutilation or where no conventional explanation (i.e animal predation) could be given of the mutilation.

We have received your request below. However - are you able to confirm the point below as per below:

MPI is unlikely to use that word (mutilations) frequently. This means that, in order to assess the size of your request, we would have to look through every document relating to every animal welfare investigation across the whole country for the last four years to find material that may be relevant. This would likely require substantial collation and research. Are you able to provide more details about what you are interested in so we can assist in scoping the request?

In regards to your request for information relating to cattle mutilations
in New Zealand since 1 January 2015, and as stated in our correspondence
to you on 3 July 2019, can you please provide more details about what you
are interested in so we can assist in scoping your request. This will
enable MPI to better respond to your request. In the absence of any
clarification, MPI is likely to require a significant extension, or may
consider refusing this request under 18(f) of the OIA.

 

The Official Information Act requires us to make a decision as soon as
possible on this request so I am hoping to hear from you as soon as
possible.
