Dear Mr Keidel

Thank you for your email, which you refer to as an official information request. Please note that the Official Information Act does not apply to the Auditor-General.

As regards your first query, we have provided links below to the Auditor-General's annual reports for 2016/17 and 2017/18.

2016/17: https://www.oag.govt.nz/2017/annual-repo...

On page 48 of the 2016/17 annual report you will note that audit fee revenue for that year totalled $76,414,000. Note 3, on page 59 of the report contains further explanation.

2017/18: https://www.oag.govt.nz/2018/annual-repo...

On page 47 of the 2017/18 annual report you will note that audit fee revenue for that year totalled $84,492,000. Note 3 on page 57 of the report contains further explanation.

As regards you second query, we cannot answer it directly as we're not sure exactly what you mean by "primary school". Therefore, we've provided you with some information that we trust will be of assistance.

There were 763 schools that provide education to students in years 1 to 6 that we audited for 2017. The total audit fees for these schools was $3,468,000.

There were 1036 schools that provide education to students in years 1 to 8 that we audited for 2017. The total audit fees for these schools was $4,108,000.

There were 131 schools that provide education to students in year 1 to 8, but also provide education beyond year 8, that we audited for 2017. The total audit fees for these schools was $645,000.

There were 114 schools that provide education to students in years 7 and 8 that we audited for 2017. The total audit fees for these schools was $641,000.

There were 3 schools that provide education to students in years 7 and 8, but also provide education beyond year 8, that we audited for 2017. The total audit fees for these schools was $13,000.

All of the other schools that we audited for 2017 provided education to students from year 9 onwards.

Yours faithfully
Todd Beardsworth
