From: James Cameron
Dear Department of Conservation,
Ref : 18-E-1055
Recently the DOC introduced a different rate for staying in huts for residents and non residents. In your reply dated 14 January 2019 regarding rates for staying in Huts stated that “The department did however check this policy change to undertake a trail was consistent with the NZ Bill of Rights and the Human Rights Acts”
I have a few questions regarding this:
1) did the department take into account those effected pay tax via GST ?
2) How was the rate for non-residents calculated?
3) Can I please have a documents, email minutes of meetings relating the to checking of the policy against the NZ Bill of Rights and the Human Rights Acts?
Warm regards,
James Cameron

Well I'd certainly be asking the Ombudsman to follow up on and clarify the use of Legal Professional Privilege as grounds to restrict release of advice about the Human Rights Act and the NZ Bill of Rights.
The idea of Legal Professional Privilege is normally about enabling clients to feel confident that they can fully disclose information to legal advisers without having to be concerned about that information being released. Huh?
