Building 207 - Cultures, Languages, and Linguistics

Alice M. made this Official Information request to University of Auckland

This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Alice M. to read a recent response and update the status.

From: Alice M.

Dear University of Auckland,

What are the plans with Building 207 - Cultures, Languages, and Linguistics with the reformation/restructuring of the Faculty of Arts and Education schools - alongside the disestablishment of the School of Cultures, Languages, and Linguistics?

Are staff remaining in their offices - or are there plans for them to move to the buildings where their new colleagues in their respective schools are located? i.e. 207 -> 201 - Social Sciences?

Yours faithfully,

Alice M.

Dear Alice,

I refer to your request of 27 September 2025. The University's response
follows:

"What are the plans with Building 207 - Cultures, Languages, and
Linguistics with the reformation/restructuring of the Faculty of Arts and
Education schools - alongside the disestablishment of the School of
Cultures, Languages, and Linguistics?

Are staff remaining in their offices - or are there plans for them to move
to the buildings where their new colleagues in their respective schools
are located? i.e. 207 -> 201 - Social Sciences?"

I am advised that there is a stream of work for the consideration of the
accommodation of academic staff, and the related Group Services team
members, but that plans have not been finalised yet. The following
information is provided from the Faculty All-staff newsletter of 6 October
2025:

"Relocation plans: We have been looking for opportunities to carry out
some moves to provide spaces where all staff and PhD students associated
with the new Schools can be located close together. This will allow staff
and PhD students who will be part of the School of Humanities and the
School of Social Sciences to be closer to colleagues in their new schools
(for staff and PhD students coming from the current School of Cultures,
Languages and Linguistics). The planning also includes the move of the
ex-Faculty of Education and Social Work staff and PhD students, who are
currently located in B435 (58 Symonds Street), to move closer to the rest
of the faculty. High-level planning has been completed and detailed
planning (office/desk locations) will be completed with the new Heads of
School, once they are confirmed. It is expected that the first moves will
start once exams are completed in mid-November and go through to February
2026. If you have any questions, please contact the Project Manager for
the New School Structure Implementation Mike Renwick."

This constitutes a partial refusal of your request under section 18(g) of
the OIA. You have the right to make a complaint to an Ombudsman if you are
dissatisfied with the University’s response.

Yours sincerely,
