Animal Welfare concerns shown by surveys

S C McKee made this Official Information request to Department of Conservation

The request was partially successful.

From: S C McKee

Dear Department of Conservation,
OIA Request 30th March 2019

The 2019 Colmar-Brunton poll just released shows that people do not want to invest their Kiwisaver funds in companies which abuse animals. This issue of animal cruelty is the public's leading ethical concern, even ahead of human rights abuses and labour rights abuses. (https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/christc... )

Does DoC acknowledge that concerns over animal cruelty are a leading reason for public opposition to use of aerial 1080 poisoning?

The IPSOS survey June 2016, prepared for the Department of Conservation, showed that an increasing majority of New Zealanders find “ aerial poisoning unacceptable”.( pp 81 – 82,)

Why has DoC not continued with the annual IPSOS surveys?

Does DoC recognise that all members of the animal kingdom are sentient, as acknowledged in the fundamental Purpose of the Animal Welfare Act 1999, and that use of aerial 1080 is inhumane?

Yours faithfully,

S C McKee
