Dear Rebecca
Thank you for your request.
I was reading this article
[1]https://www.radionz.co.nz/news/national/...
and I would like to know how much the online immigration system cost to
develop, when did development on it start (in any form since the beginning
of its life time), how much has been spent on it to date not limited to
but including maintenance, support, development, incident management, bug
fixing, projects, updating, etc. Categorized by type and year, if
possible.
I would like to seek some further clarification from you regarding your
request. This email does not constitute our formal response but is to help
us make sure that we are investigating the right things for you.
In your request you have asked about when the system development started.
You may not be aware but there is a publicly available [2]report issued by
the Auditor General’s office that contains a timeline in the appendix
(page 41) that answers this question.
You have also asked about the cost to develop the system. The same Auditor
General’s report has the costs on page 26. It is important to note that
the costs include technology and programme costs associated with
delivering Immigration ONLINE including operating model development and
supporting technology projects. For example, our identity management
system IDME, and a number of other technology enablers, including business
change activities and support functions.
Please could you take a look and let me know if this information answers
your questions or if there is something more specific than these details
you were looking for that we might help you with?
The remaining part of your request deals I think (please correct me if not
correct), with how much it costs to support and run the system each year
and how much has been spent to date?
You have requested a breakdown categorised by type and year. By type are
referring to the examples you have provided e.g. support or incident
management? These are spread over very different areas of business so any
words you could lend here would be useful.

Dear Ceinwen Kelly,
Thanks for sending that through. However, there is no clear figure in those documents for the software. Can you please break up the ICT costs for components etc, to date not for an unrelated programme of work.
Yours sincerely,
Rebecca Johnstone
