Visitor visa estimated travel dates

Response to this request is long overdue. By law Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment should have responded by now (details and exceptions). The requester can complain to the Ombudsman.

Dear Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment,

One month ago we applied for visitor visas for my parents in law. There are two fields in the application.

Estimated date of arrival in New Zealand
Estimated date of departure from New Zealand

We set them to 1st of December 2018 and 1st of February 2019 respectively. We added some buffer as those fields are called "estimated" not "exact".

The visas were issued with the following dates:
The start date of your visa is: 03 August 2018
You must arrive in New Zealand before: 3/12/2018

Which is extremely uncomfortable and does not seem logical. They can come earlier(3rd of August) which no one asked for and they can't come a week later which would be the desired date as we found better flights a week later.

It looks like that the visas should have been issued with the following dates:
The start date of your visa is: 01 December 2018
You must arrive in New Zealand before: 1/01/2019

The application number is A709427. We talked to the immigration over the phone and we were told that there is no mistake.
