Information Request – Makara Fire Chatham Islands  
I refer to your official information request dated 27 July 2018 asking for copies of the following 
information in relation to the Makara Fire Chatham Islands: 
 
1.  The documentation that FENZ has (eg correspondence, memorandum, meeting minutes, 
notes, etc within the FENZ Management Team that's sets out the basis for an Independent 
Operational Review of the Makara Fire.  This documentation should include the supporting 
arguments, recommendations and/or decision not to undertake such a formal and independent 
review. 
2. Copies of the Incident Action Reports (IAPs) for the duration of the fire; and 
3. A map overlay of the final extent of the fire (if not included in the IAPs). 
 
The Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) requires that we advise you of our decision on your 
request no later than 20 working days after the day we received your request.  Unfortunately, it 
will not be possible to meet that time limit and we are therefore writing to notify you of an 
extension of the time to make our decision, to 14 September 2018. 
 
The reason for the extension is that consultations necessary to make a decision on your request 
are such that a proper response to your request cannot reasonably be made within the original 
time limit. 
 
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision.
