Request for policy on new admissions to mental health wards

Corinda Taylor made this Official Information request to Southern District Health Board

Response to this request is long overdue. By law Southern District Health Board should have responded by now (details and exceptions). The requester can complain to the Ombudsman.

From: Corinda Taylor

Dear Southern District Health Board,

This is a request for policy on new admissions to mental health wards both in Invercargill and Dunedin. To include all policies in place from 1 February 2012 and any changes to the policy until release of this OIA request on 8 August 2018,

Please state the differences if under the mental health act or not.
Please state if policy has different procedures in place when treating actively suicidal people or not.
In particular I request the ten minute or any other observation rules in place.
Is there a different procedure if person is known to the ward or not?
Is there any other terminology that is used to describe when people are observed for suicidal behaviour to differentiate between actively suicidal or not so that staff can be alerted to the possibility on staff hand over?

Yours faithfully,

Corinda Taylor
