Dear Marama H A

On 14 April 2017 you emailed the Ministry requesting, under the Official
Information Act 1982, the following information regarding Business
start-up grants:

·         The number of applications that applied to this department for
the Business Start up Grant for the 2016 Fiscal year.

·         The number of successful applicants for the 2016 Fiscal year.

 

The Ministry has decided to grant your request in part, namely information
which relates to the number of successful applicants. However, it will
take some time to prepare this information for release. The information
will be sent to you around 15 June 2017, sooner if we are able.

The Ministry has also decided to refuse your request for the number of
applications made for a Flexi-Wage Self-Employment grant as the
information is held in notes on individual case files. In order to provide
you with this information Ministry staff would have to manually review
thousands of files. As such, I refuse your request under section 18(f) of
the Official Information Act. The greater public interest is in the
effective and efficient administration of the public service.

I have considered whether the Ministry would be able to respond to your
request given extra time, or the ability to charge for the information
requested. I have concluded that, in either case, the Ministry’s ability
to undertake its work would still be prejudiced.

If you wish to discuss this decision with us, please feel free to contact

investigation and review by the Ombudsman. Information about how to make a
