I seek information under the Official Information Act for the following,
1. The number of people officially employed in New Zealand, and
2. The number of those people as per number 1, that are working what is considered a full time week (40 hours and above) and,
3. The number of those people from number 2, who are in permanent employment, and
4. The number of people in full-time work receiving the living wage ($20.20/hr) or higher, and
5. The number of people earning less than the living wage ($20.20/hr) and
6. The number working less than a forty hour week.
Please supply as much of this information that is available within keeping with the OIA legislation.

Please note that the information here comes from the New Zealand Income
Survey, conducted by Statistics New Zealand as part of their Labour Force
Statistics set, and are therefore estimates.
Question Response
1. The number of people officially The June 2016 Household Labour Force
employed in New Zealand, and Survey (HLFS) showed that there were
2,454,000 persons employed (seasonally
adjusted)
2. The number of those people as per The June 2016 HLFS showed that there
number 1, that are working what is were 1,550,000 persons employed for at
considered a full time week (40 hours least 40 hours per week
and above) and,
3. The number of those people from The June 2016 HLFS showed that there
number 2, who are in permanent were 1,217,000 persons employed
employment, and full-time in permanent employment
4. The number of people in full-time The June 2016 HLFS showed that there
work receiving the living wage were 1,011,000 persons employed
($20.20/hr) or higher, and full-time receiving $20.20 or more per
hour
5. The number of people earning less The June 2016 HLFS showed that there
than the living wage ($20.20/hr) and were 539,000 persons employed for at
least 40 hours per week, and 514,000
persons employed for less than 40 hours
per week, receiving less than $20.20
per hour
6. The number working less than a forty The June 2016 HLFS showed that there

Note: When this survey was carried out, the living wage had been set at
$19.25 per hour. If we use that figure, then then numbers for questions 4
and 5 change to 1,080,000, 471,000 and 475,000 respectively.
