Exceptional circumstances regarding Peter Thiel's NZ citizenship
Ximena Smith made this Official Information request to Department of Internal Affairs
The request was successful.
From: Ximena Smith
Dear Department of Internal Affairs,
Nathan Guy, who was the internal affairs minister when Peter Thiel was granted New Zealand citizenship, has confirmed Mr Thiel was granted citizenship under a provision of the Citizenship Act that stated it would be "in the public interest due to exceptional circumstances of a humanitarian or other nature".
Could the Department of Internal Affairs please advise -
1) What exceptional circumstances qualified Peter Thiel to receive his New Zealand citizenship
2) How were Thiel's exceptional circumstances in the public interest
Yours faithfully,
Ximena Smith
