Dear Ministry for Primary Industries,
The Fisheries Act makes it illegal to discard or dump whole fish. The newly installed ‘offal discharge system’ installed on the newly commissioned Moana NZ Ltd vessels provides the opportunity for the discard of fish? What action is the MPI taking to ensure the device is not used for the?
With the new ‘offal discharge system’ installed in the bottom of the newly commissioned 24 m Moana NZ fishing vessels, what monitoring is proposed to be undertaken to ensure that the Fisheries Act is not breached through the discard of whole and edible fish through this device?
