Royal Commission of Enquiry

Graham Carter made this Official Information request to Minister for Primary Industries

The request was successful.

From: Graham Carter

Dear Minister for Primary Industries,

Minister
We Request that the Minister initiates a Royal Commission of Enquiry into the collusion and corruption of the Fisheries Management and New Zealand Fishing Companies.

We request all information, copies of emails and reports on what is the Minister doing to stop the collusion between the Fisheries Management division and the Commercial Fishing Companies to restore public confidence?

We request all information, copies of emails and reports of the 2003 – 2004 Ministry of Fisheries investigation which identified that some boats are processing and reporting fish in a way which resulted in understatement of catch weights.
We request all information, copies of emails and reports from November 2012 to February 2013 the MPI uses surveillance cameras on several fishing boats out of Timaru and Oamaru ports to observe the effects of commercial trawling on Hector's dolphins. Some suspected breaches of the Fisheries Act 1996 were observed. We request copies of the extensive review undertaken by Ministry staff.
We request all information, copies of emails and reports from February 2012 to March 2012 the MPI undertook another operation to gather information to help determine information on catch mix and fish size. We request a copy of this operational report.
We request all information, copies of emails and reports from May 2016, and copies of the reports into the investigations were leaked to the public, revealing the Ministry did not prosecute following the suspected breaches of the Fisheries Act.

We request all information, copies of emails and reports and correspondence between the Minister and Scott Gallacher, Andrew Coleman, Martyn Dunne and David Turner.

Yours faithfully,

Graham Carter
