Dear N Guy (MIN),
Your continued passing of the buck to other departments really only shows how dysfunctional and badly managed these departments are as they continue to deny that there is anything wrong with the inshore fishery, while delaying a response to our requests, when in fact the truth is that the MPI has finally been caught with their pants down and exposed.
We have been stating for three years, since before the SNA1 snapper debacle, how badly managed the MPI is and publishing story after story on the state of the inshore fishery and the attitudes of the commercial industry which has been continually denied.
The governments deliberate and orchestrated policy of allowing the commercial fishing industry to overfish, high-grade and discard good quality usable fish, is a clear example of the contempt and disregard in which the government hold the recreational fisher and ‘the fishery’.
We don't care how long these departments take to answer our requests and whether we have to eventually go to the Ombudsman for a forced response as it only shows how corrupt and wanting for good leadership the MPI is.
As the minister responsible for governing these departments, which you keep fobbing us off onto, you should be made aware of how irresponsible they are and we will pursue these issues as we have the 'discard and high-grading' saga currently in the public arena.
Eventually as the corruption and bad attitudes in these departments is exposed National will be left with 'egg on its face' and with an election pending could well cost you votes.
The current state of the New Zealand in-shore fishery and the attitude of the commercial fishing industry is absolutely disgusting, and in the face of the 'export double mandate' which the National Party are pursuing will show how uninterested the National Party is in the recreational fisher, who bring a huge benefit to the local economies of small coastal townships, who would not survive without them, and do far more for New Zealand economy than the commercial industry ever will.
This misguided mandate will cost the National Party and as a former staunch National Party member, you have lost my vote, until this mandate is stopped and put to bed once and forever.
Policies like the proposed flatfish increase display to the recreational sector how badly managed the MPI is with absolutely no regard or consideration for the Fisheries Act which is being manipulated for the benefit of a few Quota holders to pillage our fishery.
Be a good leader and stop the destruction or pick your place on the back benches of Parliament.

Yours sincerely,

Graham Carter
