From: Stephanie Mudgeway

Dear Ministry of Social Development,

I am making a request under the Official Information Act 1982. I am in New Zealand.

For each of the last ten completed fiscal years (years ended 30 June), please provide the following. Where a calendar-year breakdown is held more readily than fiscal year, I am happy to receive whichever is available.

1. The number of people receiving New Zealand Superannuation as at the end of each year who first became ordinarily resident in New Zealand at age 50 or older (or, if MSD records this differently, who first arrived to live in New Zealand at age 50 or older).

2. Of the number in (1), how many qualified for NZ Super by relying on a Social Security Agreement with another country and/or on residence in a New Zealand realm country (Cook Islands, Niue, Tokelau), broken down by country where held.

3. The total NZ Super expenditure attributable to the group in (1), expressed both gross and net of tax if available, for each year.

4. In the alternative to any tax-related information below: any data MSD holds indicating, for the group in (1), prior New Zealand tax or contribution history. I understand NZ Super is non-contributory and that this information may not be held by MSD; if so, please advise, and if it is held by Inland Revenue please consider transferring this limb of my request.

Please provide the information electronically (spreadsheet or PDF).

Yours faithfully,

Stephanie Mudgeway
